What are the positive environmental impacts of your product (what makes it “green”)?

The Icynene Insulation System® is a green building product that is respectful of environmental and health considerations of sustainable building/design. Icynene®’s unique material composition helps builders/designers achieve environmental performance objectives in the following ways:

Efficient Material Use
Icynene® has low air permeance - low enough that it can be classified as an air barrier. Therefore, there is no moisture movement through the material via air transfer. In some cases, this eliminates the need for a vapor barrier during construction. In just one step and using less construction material, Icynene® helps builders/designers deliver advanced moisture management to reduce the potential of mold and mildew growth.

Environmental Impact
Icynene® is 100% water-blown, emits no harmful emissions once cured, and reduces waste volume during construction. Because the material does not off-gas over time, Icynene® maintains its efficiency with no loss of R-value to provide total thermal comfort for homeowners today and for years to come. Conventional insulation, on the other hand, can deteriorate as time passes and no longer performs as it did when initially installed. So, selecting products that provide longevity, like Icynene®, will eliminate the need for the installation and/or reinstallation of additional material in the future.

What makes your product a healthy/healthier option for the home (does it have lower - or no - impacts on human health compared to similar, traditionally manufactured products?)

Icynene® insulation, thanks to its soft spray foam application, effectively reduces air leakage by sealing cracks and seams that allow harmful, moisture-laden air to travel through the building envelope. A water-based insulation and air barrier in one, Icynene creates a healthy living space virtually free from pollen and pollutants without the need for labor-intensive sealing material. Tested by Texas Tech University, Icynene was found not to be a food source for mold.

What are the financial benefits of using your product (does it save the homeowner money when compared to a similar, more traditionally manufactured product?)

Saving today’s energy-conscious homeowners up to 50% on their energy bills makes Icynene a highly attractive investment. When sprayed into walls, ceilings, floors and attics, Icynene softly expands and fills every crack and seam to deliver superior airtightness. In a comparative study done on a 2,500 sq. ft. home in New York, NY, for example, heating/cooling costs using Icynene® were $634 U.S./year versus $1,189/year for insulation batts. That’s a savings of $46.25/month for the homeowner.

How does your product contribute to a higher quality of life versus other products, and if so, why? (For example, is it a better quality of heat? Is it easier to maintain? Does it provide a greater aesthetic value?)

Icynene effectively controls air leakage by sealing difficult-to-insulate areas and other penetrations that let unwanted airborne sounds invade a living space. Noises from plumbing runs, home theaters, or outside traffic are not welcome. Icynene lets homeowners enjoy a Healthier, Quieter, More Energy Efficient® living space.
